The 2021 DVO is a deep, rich garnet, showcasing its intensity and youthful vibrance. Delicate notes of sage emerge, intertwined with the subtle earthiness of slate and a whisper of hazelnut. The bouquet is inviting and complex, beginning with playful hints of fresh lingonberry and dried herbs. On the palate, this wine strikes a beautiful balance of lightness and depth. The initial taste is lively with bright lingonberry flavors, followed by the warmth of cacao nibs. The mid-palate reveals a firm structure, offering delicate, fine-grained tannins that provide a gentle grip. The wine’s texture is captivating, as it gracefully captures the palate and envelopes through to the finish. The 2020 DVO is an elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon that exudes its charming personality in the glass. Aged in 60% new oak for 22 months, subtle notes of black cherry, cassis, and boysenberry intermingle with baking spices and exotic wood. The balanced acidity brings tension and firmness to the tannin structure, elongating the finish. The blend is completed with 8% Merlot, which delivers an alluring freshness and brightness.

While the 2018 vintage may have been a tough act to follow, the 2019s stand out as another classic, idyllic Napa Valley vintage to remember. The elements of energy and vibrancy show in the 2019 vintage. A cool winter and mild rainy spring replenished our vines and provided them with the energy to sustain the heat of summer and perfectly ripen in the fall.

The 2019 DVO exhibits a crescendo of black and red currents, violet, and cassis. The 15% influence of Cabernet Franc seamlessly ties everything together with baking spices and crushed summer herbs. Velvety and polished tannins give the wine a prolonged and elegant finish.

The 2018 DVO is a true reflection of the collaborative spirit of Dalla Valle and Ornellaia. Both nose and palate unravel in complex layers of ripe black plums and fresh black cherry and finishes with high toned red fruits, graphite, leather, cured meat and violets.  Further notes of black olive, Bay Leaf and Pine needle character adds to the immense complexity on the palate. The 2018 vintage contains a  brilliant balance between density and concentration while still preserving the freshness and structure necessary to mature for many decades.
